如果信用狀上的交易條件是 C&I 或 CIF時, 保險責任歸出口商辦理.
保險單(Insurance Policy)由保險公司(Underwriter) 簽發給出口商(The Assured, 被保險人), 確認保險契約成立的正式憑證, 其中載明雙方當事人約定之權利及義務.
出口商辦理投保時,要依照信用狀規定的保險種類在"要保書"中詳細記錄,保險公司再憑以繕打成保險單才不致有錯, 可減少修改的必要.
向保險公司辦理保險的出口商,本身是被保險人(The Assured), 一般保險單都是可轉讓的,向銀行押匯時,出口商一定要在保險單的背後簽名(就像支票在後面背書一樣),如此保單持有人(貨物所有人)才能得到保險的權益.
